Our topic this term is all about The Irish famine...
Our class novel is Under the Hawthorn Tree. We are enjoying reading this together in class (although some parts are very sad)
Week 1: The humble spud!
We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the potato quiz... who knew that there are over 4000 varieties of potatoes?! We also discovered how Golden Wonder crisps got their name!!
We thought that the potato originated in Ireland and so we were shocked to discover that it actually originated in the Peruvian Andes in 6000 BC!
We know that potatoes are out of this world in their versatility and taste but they are quite literally out of this world as in 1995 they were the first vegetable to be grown in outer space!
Towards the end of this week we looked at the potato plant, labelling each part and developing our understanding of the humble spud and tubers!
